What the Dickens!
Lycée level show
An imitator of Dickens meets a young, aspiring street artist, Pippa Pumblechook who works in a sweat shop run by the owner Bill Sikes, a businessman, who dreams of singing with his favourite group, Uriah Heep!
Encounters where young and old are thrown together by chance or by design? Dreams, hopes and expectations worn against a stark reality, intolerance and despair but not without Dickens’s inimitable flair for humour, irony and a touch of the eccentric!
Themes that are treated are tolerance, a changing world and acceptance or rejection of such, ambition, child labour and addressing climate change.
“Dickens’ fictional narrative impulse would have been towards any possible plot. Dickens may have been driven towards what was tellable but not believable.”
